——Risk and uncertainty
1. Risk
Two generally accepted elements of risk are the following:1) An uncertain outcome and 2) possibility of loss.
2. Uncertainty
“Uncertainty” appears to be the same as “indeterminate outcome”. To some degree, uncertainty—not being certain—represents a state of mind, based on opinion or emotion, rather than objective risk.
3. Possibility
Possibility means something could happen. A possibility either exists or does not exist, just as a light switch is either on or off.
4. probability
Probability is the proportion of time that events will occur in the long run. Unlike possibility, probability is measurable. It can be expressed numerically, as a number between zero and one. |
